About Brian Callison

Brian Callison is the author of twenty-one best sellers published by HarperCollins, Severn House, Futura and Ostara Top Notch Thrillers. His novels have been translated into twelve languages including Japanese, Polish, Icelandic and Finnish. They have been printed in Braille, released as audio books, issued in large print editions and commended as creative writing references by several international learning institutions. A member of The Society Of Authors his latest print re-issue is A Flock Of Ships (Ostara Publishers 2011). Currently (April 2013) all of Callison's titles have now been released as Kindle eBooks. Several are also available to Kobo readers with more to follow over the coming weeks.

PLR statistics reveal Callison to rank among the more frequently borrowed names on UK library shelves. On publication of his now-classic A Flock Of Ships, Alistair McLean wrote, The best war story I have ever read. No qualifications, no reservations, no exceptions as to type and time: it’s the best. Makes All Quiet On The Western Front look like one of the lesser works of Enid Blyton.

A former Merchant Navy officer sailing in cargo liners to the Far East and Australia, Brian subsequently worked in commerce before becoming a full time author. Following service with the 51st Highland Division Provost Company (TA) Royal Military Police, he returned to his seafaring roots to maintain an active 35-year connection with ships as a Head of Unit and Naval Control Of Shipping officer in the volunteer Royal Naval Auxiliary Service.

More recently he completed a three-year appointment to the University of Dundee as a Fellow of The Royal Literary Fund, where his brief included mentoring staff and students on all aspects of practical and creative - not exclusively academic - writing, conducted primarily by one-to-one consultations. ‘Helping nurture the authors of tomorrow by demystifying the writing process,’ he reflects, ‘proved the most satisfying and rewarding achievement of my career.’

Currently Brian continues to work with private clients as a literary consultant, career adviser and mentor. Writing: guiding new writers: teasing out the very essence of professionally-competent authorship in order to help them sell their work, is what Callison excels at, and he submits a portfolio comprising some two million published words as evidence.

Tremendous pace and suspense. Daily Express
